Key Largo Scuba Diving

Essayez la plongée sous-marine à Key Largo

Wondering what scuba diving is like but not ready (…yet) to commit to a full certification course? Why not spend a day with us in a Discover Scuba Diving program? It is a great adventure for the whole family, and also a pretty smart way to give the whole “scuba thing” a shot before signing up for a certification course to see if scuba diving is something you would enjoy!

Classes start at 9 am with a brief classroom session before you head out to the pool site for the rest of the morning, where you will don scuba gear, your instructor will teach you a few skills and you will have playtime to experience scuba diving in the pool.

If you love your experience in the pool you have the option of going on a dive charter trip with your instructor in the afternoon where you will do two dives at different locations on the reef! You will be doing this for real – isn’t that amazing? Each dive can be as long as one hour. The program typically concludes at around 5 pm.

By the way, you can also choose to split the program into two half days, with the pool experience on the first day and the optional open water dives on the second day, should this fit your vacation schedule better.

The dive depth will be an average of 25 feet or less, and you will get to see some pretty cool stuff since our coral reefs are teeming with fish and marine wildlife! There is even a good chance to see a turtle, stingrays, moray eels, or even a shark or two, depending on which one of these guys feels like passing by to “say hello”.

To participate in this program, you must be 10 years or older and pass a medical questionnaire, which means being able to answer “no” to all questions therein or else have a doctor’s release stating that you are fit to scuba dive. You can review the DSD Medical Questionnaire here before enrolling in the program. You also must know how to swim in water too deep to stand up in.

The Discover Scuba Diving class (pool experience and optional open water dives) is $225 plus tax per person (based on 2 students in the class – individual students are $250 plus tax). This includes all scuba gear rental, pool and charter fees, and instruction. Participants need their transportation since the pool site and the marina are not on site. Please note that instructor and boat crew gratuity is not included in that rate.

If you liked your Discover Scuba experience that much you would like to do it again you can do a Second Day Discover Scuba course which is a repeat of the half-day dive charter trip with two instructor-guided dives on the coral reef again, just on different dive spots this time around. The cost is $170 plus tax per student (individual students $195 plus tax)  including all gear rentals. Please note that the second course day must be within 5 days of your full-day Discover Scuba Diving course to be able to omit the pool session.

The cost for the scuba experience in the pool only is $100 plus tax per person (individual students $125 plus tax).
