Key Largo Dive Sites — Reefs, Wrecks & Underwater Attractions

Scuba-Fun offers trips to the most famous dive sites in the florida keys
Spiegel Grove
At 510 feet long, the Spiegel Grove is one of the largest artificial reefs in North America and one of the most celebrated wreck dives in the world. Intentionally sunk in 2002, it now sits in 65–130 feet of water and is blanketed in coral and marine life. Advanced divers can penetrate multiple decks while intermediate divers explore the superstructure and exterior. A Key Largo bucket-list dive.
Molasses Reef
Molasses Reef is one of the most visited dive sites in the world and the crown jewel of Key Largo scuba diving. Located inside John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, this sprawling shallow-to-medium depth reef sits in 20–35 feet of crystal-clear water, making it perfect for divers of all experience levels. Expect vibrant coral formations, sea turtles, eagle rays, nurse sharks, and an explosion of tropical fish on every dive. If you only dive one reef in the Florida Keys, make it Molasses.
Christ of the Abyss
One of the most iconic underwater landmarks in the world — and it lives right here in Key Largo. The 9-foot bronze statue stands in 25 feet of crystal-clear water inside John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, arms raised toward the surface, surrounded by coral and tropical fish. A bucket-list moment for divers of every level. Shallow enough for beginners, breathtaking enough for everyone.
French Reef
Known for dramatic swim-throughs, caverns, and archways draped in coral, French Reef offers an underwater landscape that feels genuinely adventurous at every turn. Depths range from 15–45 feet inside the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, with spotted eagle rays, moray eels, grouper, and dense schools of tropical fish around every corner. One of the Florida Keys’ best-kept secrets — and one of our favorite dives.
Duane
The USCGC Duane is one of the most celebrated wreck dives in the Caribbean and a cornerstone of Key Largo scuba diving. This 327-foot Coast Guard cutter was intentionally sunk in 1987 and now rests upright in 120 feet of water, her bow rising to within 60 feet of the surface — blanketed in coral and swarming with goliath grouper, barracuda, and tropical fish. Advanced divers explore the bridge and deck while intermediate divers work the shallower superstructure. Paired with the Spiegel Grove, the Duane makes Key Largo one of the greatest wreck diving destinations on the planet.
Key Largo — The Diving Capital of the World
Why the Florida Keys Remain One of the Top Scuba Diving Destinations on the Planet
experiences within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary
Key Largo earned its title as the Diving Capital of the World for good reason. Situated at the northern tip of the Florida Keys, Key Largo sits at the edge of the only living coral barrier reef in the continental United States — a vast, protected underwater ecosystem stretching over 170 miles through the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Water temperatures stay warm year-round, visibility regularly exceeds 30–60 feet, and the sheer diversity of marine life — from sea turtles and eagle rays to goliath grouper, nurse sharks, and hundreds of tropical fish species — makes every dive unique.
Add to that some of the most celebrated wreck dives in the world — the Spiegel Grove, the Duane, and the Benwood among them — plus iconic underwater landmarks like the Christ of the Abyss, and it becomes clear why divers travel from across the globe to experience Key Largo scuba diving firsthand.
For divers of every level, from first-timers to seasoned technical divers, there is simply nowhere else in the continental United States that compares. This is why we’re here — and why we’re passionate about making sure every diver who visits Key Largo has the most personal, memorable underwater experience possible.

Real Reviews from Beginners & Certified Divers Exploring Key Largo with Scuba Fun
“We’ll Be Back”
Came from MN to do our Advanced Deep Water PADI cert with Scuba-Fun center. All communication was fast, clear and easy! We did our 5 dives over 2 days and couldn’t be happier. Bob, got us pointed in the right directions on day one and really helped us dial in our buoyancy. Day 2 Rob took us to the deep water and gave us all the instructions to make it stress free, exciting, and fun. His feedback between dives helped us again to improve buoyancy and our air usage…we nearly doubled our time in the water one dive to the next with his instructions. AND! Everywhere we went was gorgeous and a privilege to be in. We’ll be back!!!

“Amazing Time“
I did my OW certification from Scuba Fun and had an amazing time with Robert as my instructor. We had difficult weather preventing us from doing boat dives but despite that Robert and his team helped arrange lagoon dives to get my certification completed. Yvonne was great with all the communication and scheduling especially with all the questions before the certification. Highly recommend Scuba Fun for getting certified.

“Recommend 100%”
Did more than a couple of dives with them. Would recommend them a 100%. Very committed to customer satisfaction and safety. Robert’s the perfect dive master/buddy to have with you while going on any dive, makes sure you do what you’re here for while having fun all the while keeping your safety the top priority. He was very patient and did a great job with all my dives giving me the perfect opportunity to learn and get certified. Gave good pointers to help with breathing and dive techniques. Very knowledgeable and great teacher if you want to get any kind of dive certs. Among so many dive shops in the key largo area you wouldn’t want to miss out diving with them. They are willing to work with you and accomodate your learning at your own pace.
If its been a while since your last dive this is the shop I would recommend.
