Next Steps to Becoming a Certified Diver

The PADI Open Water Diver Course is available as a full class or as a referral program.

Full Open Water Diver Course

Our course is based on students taking an online class before coming to us for the in-water training session, which is typically scheduled over three days. A two-day course schedule is also available upon request.

The online class covers all required course academics, including the course exam, saving you more than a day of classroom lectures here with us. From the time of registration, you have 12 months to finish this part of your course.
To ensure you’re fully prepared, plan to allocate approximately six to eight hours for the home study portion of your scuba diving certification. This time investment allows you to thoroughly understand the material at your own pace, ensuring you’re ready for practical applications.

When you arrive here for your confined and open-water training sessions, you will embark on a comprehensive learning journey. Your training begins with an academic review in the classroom, where foundational diving knowledge is covered. This will prepare you for the practical skills you’ll develop in the water.

You’ll spend one full day in the pool with your instructor, learning all required scuba skills in an environment designed to enhance your comfort and confidence. The focus here is to ensure you gain essential diving skills and build confidence in a controlled setting.

On days two and three, you will dedicate a half-day each to accomplish four open-water training dives in the ocean at different reef sites, surrounded by beautiful marine life. Alternatively, you can schedule your in-water training over two full days, with mornings spent in the pool and afternoons diving in open water.

The course fee is $649 plus applicable tax per student. This includes the online class, course materials, gear rental, entry and charter fees, all instruction, and certification (online course registration fees paid by you will be deducted from the course fee).

Here’s what equipment is provided during your scuba diving course:

  • Mask, Fins, and Snorkel: Essential for your underwater exploration, these items are included to ensure your comfort and visibility.
  • Buoyancy Compensator (BCD): Helps maintain neutral buoyancy while diving, a crucial skill for any scuba diver.
  • Regulator: Provides you with air from your tank, making it a vital piece of equipment for breathing underwater.
  • Wetsuit: Keeps you warm and comfortable, no matter the water temperature.

Additionally, students benefit from a low 4-to-1 student-to-instructor ratio, allowing for personalized training and ample practice time underwater. With these provisions, you’re well-equipped to enjoy a comprehensive and supportive learning experience as you prepare for your open-water certification.

Open Water Diver Referral Program

Open Water Diver Referrals are welcome at Scuba-Fun as well. This is for students who have started their course with another scuba school or instructor and have done all their course academics and pool training already but are still missing their four required open-water training dives. This can be accomplished in as little as two half days.

For PADI referrals, we do require the student record and course progress form filled out, signed, and dated by the initial instructor. Please note that the last course activity must have been within 12 months or else you have to start the course over. If your pool session has been a while we strongly encourage you to book an additional pool review session before the open water training dives to help you get back “into the groove”.

The referral course fee is $355 plus tax per student. This includes gear rental, charter fees, all instruction, and certification. An additional pool review session is $100 plus tax ($125 if single student).

Please note that if you have not done your course academics via PADI eLearning you need to pay an additional $60 for certification fees. Students require a logbook for the class.

For Non-PADI Referrals, we do require the International or Global Referral form properly filled out, signed, and dated by the initial instructor, no older than 12 months. Besides a quick classroom session, you need to accomplish a confined water session with your instructor before your open water training. The course will be 1.5 days and will result in a PADI certification. The course fee is $480 plus tax per student, which includes gear rental, entry and charter fees, all instruction, and certification. Students require a logbook for the class.

Upgrade from PADI Scuba Diver to PADI Open Water Diver

If you already hold a PADI Scuba Diver certification and would like to upgrade to a PADI Open Water Diver certification, we can help you with that, too! The time and cost involved do depend on a few factors such as what course sections have been signed off by your initial instructor, what course materials you still have access to, when your last dive was, etc. Please do not hesitate to contact us for a quote!

Useful Things to Know About Your Open Water Diver Training

Ocean dives are weather conditions-permitting. If the sea conditions are in no state to conduct training dives safely we will do training dives in a protected lagoon.

To participate in the course, you must be 10 years or older, be healthy and reasonably fit, and must know how to swim. Please also review the Medical Statement, if you answer “yes” to any of the questions you will need to get a medical release from your doctor before we can start the in-water portion of your course. The only things you need will be a swimsuit, a towel, and sunscreen. No prior experience with scuba diving is required.

Courses are being offered daily with never more than four students per instructor. Parties of a greater number will have the respective number of instructors dedicated to them. Please reserve your spots in the course ahead of time.
