Shows a Florida spiny lobster

Lobster diving trips in the Florida Keys are available during a two-day mini-season in July, which is always on the last Wednesday and Thursday of the month, and during the regular lobster season starting August 6th through March 31st.

Lobster trips are two-tank charters with dives on reef areas with an average dive depth of 25-35 feet. In general, the dives are all well within open water diver limits, and regular divers who do not want to lobster are welcome aboard as well. Trips are offered in the mornings and afternoons.

Lobster Trips are extremely popular

Insider Tip: All trips during mini-season and the first week of the regular season cater mainly to the activity of lobstering. These are the busiest days for lobstering here in the area and dive boats may be booked to a fuller capacity than usual. If you want to avoid the crowds do not opt for trips on the first days of any of the two seasons but choose trips in the afternoons on following days or days later in the regular season.

Trips will leave from the Upper Keys area (Key Largo/Tavernier/Islamorada). Please add any other rental gear costs as needed, any costs for the required Florida Saltwater Fishing License with Lobster Stamp as well as for lobster hunting gear such as measuring gauge, net, tickle stick, a pair of gloves, and a bag. A complete lobster gear kit can be purchased locally starting at around $25.

For those of you who will lobster dive for the first time, who are newly certified or beginner divers, or those whose last dive was 1-2 years ago we do recommend hiring a dive guide for your trip. The guide helps with dive navigation, finding and catching lobster, and also cleaning your catch when you get back to shore. A guide adds $50 per diver ($100 if you are an individual diver). Individual divers must hire a dive guide for their dives.
