Become a Rescue Diver

Scuba divers describe the PADI Rescue Diver course as the most challenging, yet most rewarding course they have ever taken. Why? Because you learn to prevent and manage problems in the water and become more confident in your skills as a diver, knowing that you can help others if needed. During the course, you learn to become a better buddy by practicing problem-solving skills until they become second nature.
PADI Adventure Divers who are at least 12 years old and have completed the Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive may enroll in a Rescue Diver course. You must also have Emergency First Response | Primary and Secondary Care training within the past 24 months. You can complete this training during the Rescue Diver course here with us. Scuba-Fun also offers the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider specialty diver course should you be interested.
The PADI Rescue Diver course prepares you to deal with minor and major dive emergencies using various techniques. Knowledge development and rescue exercises teach you what to look for and how to respond. During rescue scenarios, you put into practice your knowledge and skills. Topics include self-rescue, recognizing and managing stress in other divers, emergency management and equipment, rescuing panicked divers, and rescuing unresponsive divers.
You will need a pocket mask to practice in-water resuscitation (available in the Scuba-Fun shop).
The course is based on students taking the PADI Rescue Diver Online course before coming here for their in-water training. You progress through five knowledge development sections using a web-based system that lets you learn at your own pace through an easy-to-use, interactive program. You also have access to an online version of the Rescue Diver Manual for reference during and after the course. The course will take two days to finish with training sessions in both confined and open water. The course fee is $555 plus tax per student, which includes the online class, tanks, and weights for your training dives, entry and charter fees, and certification.
The basic scuba equipment is required for the course and can be rented from us if needed.
Please note that the course schedule is always laid out based on students having finished their course academics ahead of time, so classroom time is limited to going over your knowledge review answers and writing the exam.
Emergency First Response | Primary & Secondary Care
To become certified as a Rescue Diver, you must have a current EFR certification (or a comparable certification from another agency), no older than 24 months. If you do not hold such certification you can combine your EFR training with your Rescue Diver course. It will add another day to your course schedule. The additional cost is $165 plus tax which includes the online course and certification fee.
Emergency O2 Provider
Knowing how and when to administer emergency oxygen is a valuable skill to have in a dive emergency. PADI® Emergency Oxygen Provider prepares you to offer aid and teaches you to recognize scuba diving injuries and illnesses requiring emergency oxygen.
This is an excellent course for scuba divers, boat crew, lifeguards, freedivers, mermaids, or anyone who spends time in and around water. No age restrictions or water sessions are required. It can be easily combined with your Rescue Diver and/or Emergency First Response Course without adding any additional training time. As a stand-alone course, the time demand would be one day. The course fee is $165 plus tax including the online course and certification fee, and only $120 if you add it to your Rescue Diver and/or Emergency First Response course.
